Why I'm Running
More than a century ago, my great grandfather came to San Francisco in a wave of immigrants seeking a better life, and to raise a family in a city of opportunity.
He started with a job lighting streetlamps. He went to work on the docks, and eventually built a thriving fishing business. He met my grandmother, and they started a family.
San Francisco has given so much to my family and many others, and I truly love this city. I have lived in San Francisco all my life, and my husband and I have chosen to raise our family here as well.
Growing up in San Francisco, I've seen the city go through countless changes, but it has always been a dynamic, inclusive city where people look out for each other. This is a city where all are welcome, and to which the entire country looks for innovation and leadership in social progress.
I'm running for Mayor because I want my children to find the same opportunities for education, careers and community that five generations of my family have found in San Francisco.
I know San Francisco can be a leader in the emerging biotechnology and green energy economy. I know we can build a world-class education system so that San Francisco kids can become global leaders. I know that our city can continue to be a national center for arts and culture.
To meet the challenges facing San Francisco today, we need city government to be a little less about the personalities in City Hall, and lot more about the people it serves. We need a Mayor who wants to build consensus, not score points against political opponents.
For the seven years that I served on the Board of Supervisors, I worked to represent the best of my district. I worked to bring people together to solve problems, and to bring common sense to City Hall.
San Francisco continues to be a beacon of hope and opportunity to people from all over the country and the world. People who come here to start businesses, pursue an education and be part of a remarkable community. I hope you'll join me in my effort to make sure San Francisco continues to be a city of opportunity for everyone.
Thank you so much for your support!
